For over 25 years I have worked as a social worker, life coach and therapist with children, adolescents and adults. Since I was a child I knew that I wanted to be a counselor helping others in their time of need. At some point in life's journey you may experience a time where you feel you may benefit from some extra support and guidance, let me help you on the road to hope and healing. I believe in a mutual therapeutic relationship working together as a team towards the client's goals. Starting therapy and sharing issues that have become challenging is a hard and yet courageous step in your healing process. As a therapist I am honored to be able to share in this journey and hold the emotions that come with this. I consider myself to be an eclectic therapist, taking into consideration the individuals uniqueness and needs before implementing techniques and strategies. I use an honest and direct approach in a non-judgemental and compassionate way. With the help of different modalities CBT, Mindfulness, Solution Focused and EMDR I can help you find a path toward inner peace and joy.

Hi, My name is Heather and I have been working as an individual and family therapist for over 10 years. Through my professional experiences, I have found a love for working with younger adult clients and currently work with many undergraduate and graduate college student. I enjoy my work in helping to identify what isn't working for clients in their individual lives or in their relationships and finding alternative ways of thinking and responding that support mental wellness. My experience is is mostly in the areas of symptoms commonly experienced by those struggling with ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD. I work mainly with cognitive models of therapy and am trained in EMDR, and have experience with other theories of psychology that I interweave into my practice, depending on what clients needs are and what they respond positively to. Ultimately I think the connection between therapist and client is the most important part of the therapeutic relationship and I truly enjoy getting to know my clients on a personal level through the clinical work we engage in. I'd appreciate your consideration in your searches for a therapist to work with.

I work with teen and adult individuals from a humanistic, somatic, mindfulness based perspective. It is my belief that the therapeutic relationship itself is a guiding force in the healing process and an essential component for clients to more deeply access themselves. In our time together, we will increase awareness around your relationship to self, relationship patterns with others, how you work to notice and process feelings, how you relate to past wounds and trauma and how you regulate through stressful times. Together we will increase your capacity to compassionately trust and come back to yourself over and over again. I offer a compassionate presence to hold space for whatever you are carrying; especially for people who identify as women. I work with depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD and family conflict in addition to dealing with the every day stresses of life. My goal is to support you so that you can feel more equipped to show up fully in your life.

Drug & Alcohol Counselor
Boulder, CO

I work primarily in the areas of addiction, adoption, trauma, and spiritual needs. As an addiction counselor, I work primarily with young men and women struggling to overcome compulsive use of drugs, alcohol, pornography, and internet usage. This may range from life-destructive addiction to those just beginning to see that their use is bringing things they don't want. As an adoption counselor, I work to help adult adoptees confront the issues that may or may not be stemming from being given up for adoption. And as a trauma therapist, I work with the mind-body connection to help those calm their nervous system, and reclaim a clear mind. Finally, all of my work entails the use of mindfulness, and working with the body's response to the mind. This makes my approach very suitable for those beginning to connect to their own sense of spirituality.

Life is hard. Like, really hard. And you're doing all the right things; but you still feel anxious. You can't seem to stop overthinking everything. You are feeling more and more insecure and are worried about feeling like a burden to others. You've tried to rationalize your thinking, but aren't getting anywhere. And now, that inner critic has become so loud and so present, that it's hard to hear or believe anything else. This is what I often hear from clients, and I get it - I've been there too. I understand what it's like to be labelled as "sensitive" and viewing emotions as a weakness. It's hard to figure out how to feel confident in who you are while living up to others' expectations. To feel constantly worried about "doing the right thing" and struggling with feeling "selfish" when you're trying to set boundaries. I help those who are excessively worried, struggling with low self-esteem, and experiencing relational distress gain confidence in being their authentic selves. I help my clients learn how to cope with their emotional experiences while practicing self-compassion. Emotions are not our enemy; in fact, emotions have a purpose. Utilizing evidence-based practices such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and mindfulness - I help clients learn how to use their emotions to connect with their inner selves and identify patterns and themes that wreak havoc in their lives. If you find yourself tired of feeling chronically defeated and are ready for change- it's time to start your journey of self-healing and growth.

We work primarily with folks experiencing difficulty with ADHD or attention struggles, anxiety, PTSD, and depression. We use a brain map (qEEG) to measure baseline electrical activity, and then design an individualized protocol to then habituate more adaptive, efficient, and flexible brainwave patterns. Training occurs twice weekly for around 30-50 sessions.

Genuine. Honest. Compassionate. I focus on helping adult clients overcome anxiety, phobias, and depression with cognitive behavioral therapy. Hello, I'm Rachel. Whether you are in acute distress or addressing long-standing problems, I know no one comes to therapy at their best. You will find no judgment here. As your psychologist, I will affirm your strengths—you have more than you realize!—and give you the tools to examine what's helping you, what's not, and how to change it. I am a licensed psychologist, practicing cognitive behavioral therapy to help people struggling with anxiety, phobias, and depression. I tailor evidence-based practices to each of my clients' specific needs. Prior to starting my private practice, I worked with adults in community mental health, youth in correctional facilities, and older adults in long-term care. I earned my PsyD from the University of Denver in 2008. I look forward to meeting you and working together.

Boulder, CO

Individuals struggling with suicidal ideation can come to The Hope Institute for treatment, to increase hope, and obtain the ability to safely wait for ongoing outpatient care, when needed. Our approach is unique, as it is based in the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), two of the most effective, evidence-based models currently available for treating suicidality. With the use of CAMS and DBT, the clinician and client will work together to solve problems. CAMS is an evidenced-based therapeutic framework for suicide-specific assessment and treatment of a patient’s suicidal risk. Each session of CAMS intentionally utilizes the patient’s input about what is and is not working. All assessment work in CAMS is collaborative; we seek to have the patient be a “co-author” of their own treatment plan (CAMS-care, 2024). DBT is a type of talk therapy that gives clients skills in regulating their emotions, tolerating distress, maintaining healthy relationships, practicing mindfulness and thinking from perspectives other than their own. THI is home to multiple clinicians who are certified and trained in CAMS and DBT. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based behavior focused treatment intended to help clients build a life worth living while reducing suicidal and self-harming behaviors. Parent and teen groups are available. DBT groups provide clients with five core skills to manage intense emotions and enhance day-to-day life: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and dialects.

I believe in empowering my clients to access and to unfold to their own inner wisdom and brilliance. Rather than providing all the answers or solutions, I facilitate a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can investigate their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My academic journey has taken me to many different countries, and I am passionate about combining my interest in western psychology with the ancient wisdom of Buddhist psychology. I earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Canterbury University, New Zealand (2009) and her master’s degree in motivational psychology from the University in Zurich, Switzerland (2012). She also holds an additional master's degree from Naropa University in contemplative psychology. I bring my unique blend of experiences to her work. Among other adventures, I have worked in Zanskar Valley in Ladakh, Northern India and has studied psychology in Nepal, Indian. I have also taught Yoga and Yoga therapy to athletes. I take a trauma informed approach to therapy, combining her training in Somatic Experiencing with other contemplative approaches as well as elements of IFS, Polyvagal, solution focused therapy, and positive psychology. I work with many college students who are needing some support, guidance, and tools that can help them navigate their current life situation. I personally understand, from my own experience at college, some of the challenges and difficulties that can arise, so there is a lot of compassion and understanding for what you may be experiencing. I also have experience working with local students at CU. College can be exciting, fresh, and new. At the same, it puts us in completely new surroundings and situations. Overwhelm is natural. To any student who is considering therapy, I hope you know that overwhelm doesn't mean that something has gone wrong. It's normal when there are so many big changes taking place. My job is primarily to listen to you, and to really try to understand things from your perspective. This in itself is quite relieving: to be heard, seen, and understood. There's no reason for you to feel completely alone and isolated in your experience. Above all, you will find a supportive space in my practice for you to be at ease and be yourself. There are many wonderful counselors out there, and many not-so-good ones. My strong advice to you is to find a therapist who you really like, and don't stop looking for one until you find them. Before and during my own college experience, I had visited several counselors who I didn't have a real connection with. It wasn't until I was 22 that I found a counselor who I really connected with. Counseling should be a very positive experience. It is a huge resource in life. Trust yourself about what feels good to you - and go for it!
