Therapists for college students near Denver, CO
Hello, I'm Mercy, a mother and a wife. Life is a continuous journey that has no end until we take our last breath! While we partake in this journey, it is well known that it can be challenging. However, one has the power to ease the pain associated with this journey through understanding when help is needed, seeking the help, and being open to accepting the support. I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Colorado in 2006 and my master’s degree in counseling in Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy from the University of Phoenix, Colorado Springs campus in 2012. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Colorado and Arizona. Over the course of my clinical career, I have worked and trained in residential treatment and community mental health centers including department of corrections and private practice. I consider myself a lifelong learner and crave learning new information. Due to my intensive training in Marriage and Family Therapy in graduate school, I have made this area my primary passion and focus. I have participated in extensive postgraduate training in addictions. However, I also greatly enjoy providing individual and group counseling for children and adults who are looking for support with more mild life stressors such as depression, anxiety, parenting education, health and wellness, and behavioral struggles. I specialize in family relationships, multicultural/diversity issues, grief/bereavement, depression, anxiety, anger management, and spirituality. I approach my work with a sense of humor, respect, humility, and honesty. I am honored to join my clients in their individual journeys towards wellness, leading to their brighter future. If you're ready to take the next step on your journey, I would be honored to support you along the way. Let's work together to create a brighter future.

Meaning-Making & Life Transitions | Anxiety, Grief, and Healing There are times in life when the questions feel too big: Why does everything feel so disconnected from what I imagined? How do I keep moving forward when I’m not sure where to go? If you’ve built a life that looks good on the outside but feels off on the inside, you’re not alone. Maybe you’ve spent years pushing forward, staying busy, and doing what’s expected—only to find yourself feeling restless, anxious, or disconnected from what once drove you. Or maybe something big has shifted—grief, a transition, an unexpected change—and suddenly, the certainty you once relied on isn’t there anymore. I understand this because I’ve lived it. Losing both of my parents during some of the most formative years of my life left me grappling with a depth of grief and confusion I wasn’t prepared for. In my late teens and early adulthood, I had to figure out how to keep going while everything around me was shifting. It was a messy, painful journey that took me to the darkest corners of myself, forcing me to confront emotions I hadn’t even realized I was carrying. And through it, I eventually learned that healing doesn’t come from pushing through or pretending to be okay. It comes from creating space for what’s real—sitting with it, learning from it, and finding a way forward, even when it feels impossible. My approach is grounded in the belief that healing isn’t about fixing what’s “broken,” but about understanding yourself in new ways. It’s about reconnecting with who you truly are, even when life has pulled you off course. In my practice, I offer a space for you to process what’s beneath the surface—without pressure, without judgment. Whether you’re navigating grief, dealing with anxiety, or facing a life transition that’s left you questioning everything, therapy can help you make sense of it. Healing with me isn’t about quick fixes; it’s about deep exploration, vulnerability, and learning how to reconnect with yourself and what truly matters to you. If any of this resonates, I’m here to walk with you through it—helping you rediscover clarity, confidence, and the courage to move forward in a way that feels right for you. Gabrielle Samo, MA, LPCC, earned her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regis University and understands that navigating life’s challenges can feel overwhelming. Her approach combines practical tools to help make sense of things (because sometimes we need a map) with the space to sit with what’s hard (because not everything can—or should—be fixed right away). Her work is informed by experience supporting individuals with chronic and terminal illnesses, as well as years of hospice volunteer work. Gabrielle Samo is supervised by Michelle Fagan, LPC #0016337.

I offer therapy for students dealing with: depression, anxiety, grief, and relationship issues, and EMDR for those recovering from traumatic and life disturbing experiences. I also teach practical skills utilizing Dialectical Behavior Therapy on mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness. We often seek therapy when we're ready for change and part of our life has become unbalanced. A feeling of discontent, depression, or anxiety may have lasted a lifetime, or may have been initiated by a transitional change, such as loss of a relationship or career, or a yearning to grow beyond where we have been stuck. The crux of what I do is help you integrate the various parts that make up your whole being: your emotional, mental, physical and spiritual selves. I use a variety of methods to help facilitate this process, validated by latest neuroscience research. My work is founded on the notion that we are already whole, wise and compassionate. My services aim to help you reconnect with your innate sense of goodness and wellbeing. By beginning to integrate the various aspects of your being, you will begin to trust your natural capacity to thrive.
I work primarily in the areas of addiction, adoption, trauma, and spiritual needs. As an addiction counselor, I work primarily with young men and women struggling to overcome compulsive use of drugs, alcohol, pornography, and internet usage. This may range from life-destructive addiction to those just beginning to see that their use is bringing things they don't want. As an adoption counselor, I work to help adult adoptees confront the issues that may or may not be stemming from being given up for adoption. And as a trauma therapist, I work with the mind-body connection to help those calm their nervous system, and reclaim a clear mind. Finally, all of my work entails the use of mindfulness, and working with the body's response to the mind. This makes my approach very suitable for those beginning to connect to their own sense of spirituality.

College is often called "the best years of your life," but for many, it feels like an endless loop of performance, pressure, and old patterns. Whether you're navigating the heavy fog of academic burnout, the "lonely-but-smothered" cycle of new relationships, or a major life transition that has left you feeling completely ungrounded, I’m here to help you find your footing. I believe you shouldn’t have to "fix" who you are—especially your sensitivity. Instead, we’ll work on learning how to use it as your greatest compass. How We Work Together With over 23 years of experience, I’ve learned that the most powerful tool in the room is a real, authentic connection. I use a relational, mind-body approach—blending ACT and CBT—to help you name the barriers in your way and retire the survival patterns (like people-pleasing, perfectionism, or masking) that no longer serve you. I’m known for putting students at ease quickly; our first session isn't a "clinical intake," it's a grounded partnership. Specialized Support for Students: Neurodivergence & Burnout: Strategies for ADHD/Autistic students to manage executive function without the "perfectionism" spiral. LGBTQ+ Identity: A safe, affirming space to explore your identity and navigate coming out or relationship transitions. Relationship & Family Cycles: Breaking free from toxic patterns and setting healthy boundaries. Trauma & Identity: Healing from the past while figuring out who you are today. Addiction & Recovery: Navigating campus culture while staying true to your sobriety or harm-reduction goals. The Highly Sensitive Student (HSP): Tools for when the world (and the dorms) feels too loud or overwhelming. Mind-Body Wellness: Supporting students with Alopecia or autoimmune disorders through the emotional toll of chronic illness. Beyond the Office I am a firm believer in the healing power of the outdoors. When I’m not in the office, you’ll usually find me hiking with my dog and finding new adventures in the fresh air. Ready to start a chapter that actually belongs to you? Reach out and let’s see if we’re a good fit.

Together, we can navigate through life transitions, anxiety, depression, and feelings of isolation or unworthiness. I work with non-linear thinkers who are searching for a therapist with intuitive wisdom who cherishes the divergent path. I specializes in connecting with ADHDers who have always felt different even if others couldn't tell. My clients are notoriously curious and adept improvisors, who are playfully creative, but they still feel perpetually out-of-sync with the world around them. They charm others with their insight and levity, and save the biting criticisms for themselves. So they end up feeling like anxious imposters, waiting to be exposed. Acquiescing to others has helped you get by without too many catastrophes, but deep down you can't keep convincing yourself that you're okay with just getting by. There's a deeper itch that's beckoning you into an alternative way of being. Yes, still different, but personal, integrated, aligned with your soul. I approach therapy as the life-changing work that it is, and while there's a serious commitment to exploring one's psyche, it doesn't mean you or I are required to take ourselves too seriously. Excavating one's own lived experience and the difficulty of navigating a world not built for you is not for the faint of heart, yet we continue to be curious, adapt, and play. I am intentional in creating and holding space for clients to find and share a more authentic version of themselves. Clients are well-met when they bring curiosity about their distinct approach to life, courage to speak what has been left unsaid, and compassion to nurture a deeper truth about themselves.
I’m glad you’re here. Reaching out for support can feel intimidating, but just by exploring therapy, you’ve already taken a brave first step. I work with young adults and professionals navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship challenges, offering both in-person and secure virtual sessions. My approach is collaborative, down-to-earth, and tailored to you—we’ll work together to help you find more balance, build healthier relationships, and make sense of past experiences using practical, evidence-based tools. Therapy is a partnership, and I’m here to support you every step of the way.
