Live and Thrive Counseling is my private practice in the community of Carrollton, Georgia. My office is close to the downtown area, but given the covid-19 changes in our daily living practices, my sessions are now fully online. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults that are struggling with depression, anxiety, poor body image, life transitions, self esteem issues, and trauma. As a registered yoga teacher (E-RYT 200) and a licensed professional counselor, I enjoy using the cognitive behavioral modality, given its heavy emphasis on mindfulness and cognitive restructuring. In addition to CBT concepts, sessions often include breathing exercises and relaxation strategy practice that the client can eventually learn to practice on his or her own to promote positive self care and healthy coping skills.
Through a highly skilled integration of therapeutic techniques and the creative process, I assist high-achieving teens and adults move through trauma recovery, find safety and trust within themselves and others, learn healthier methods of coping, and gain a deeper respect and love for themselves. Are you tired of being told you’re too sensitive? Has beloved time spent alone in order to recharge from social encounters turned into isolation and a sense of disconnection? Do you long to feel reconnected with others, immersed in the world, fully engaged in life and living your purpose? Email me at therapy@meghanharbin.com to schedule a free 15 minute consultation. Sessions can take place online anywhere in Georgia or in office in Peachtree City. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Georgia. I hold a masters degree in Social Work and bachelors’ degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology from the University of Georgia. I got my start in community mental health before transitioning to providing therapy for youth in the foster care and juvenile justice systems. I am trained in LifeForce Yoga for Mood Management and am a certified yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance, as well as a certified Dancing Mindfulness Facilitator through the Institute for Creative Mindfulness. Currently, I am in process of certification for Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, as well as a certificate in Nutritional and Integrative Medicine for Mental Health.

There is a part of me that feels extremely anxious. There is a part of me that gets really sad and down at times. There is a part of part of me that can hardly get out of bed some days. There is a part of me that needs to take care of everyone and everything. There is a part of me that wants to check out and escape from all the responsibilities I have. There is a part of me that thinks about dying and a part of me that wants to live. There is a part of me that …. How many times have we all had these feelings or thoughts that come over us that seem conflicting at times but represent how we are feeling in the moment. Understanding our parts even those that are contradictory, being able to validate and accept our parts, and creating balance and space for our parts mentally can be attained through therapy. Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) is designed to allow us to heal from our pain, hurt, and fears by managing the parts that have been created out of our traumas. We have all experienced trauma in some form, and we all have parts that have been borne from those traumas. Parts that help us manage our daily lives and parts that may tend to disrupt our lives, but all of these parts are valid and serve some self-protective purpose and can be managed once they are understood. I have worked as a therapist in a university psychology clinic, an inpatient psychiatric hospital, in the community with children and teens, and currently in the prison system. Hello! I'm so glad you're here! I work with folks who have learned to survive and navigate the world by making themselves small, putting their heads down, and doing the hard things that no one else will. They are intelligent, resourceful, and strong, so it is tempting to feel like if they try harder, think more, or be less themselves- all their feelings, challenges, or circumstances will change. But that hasn't been working. Often, they find themselves at the end of their rope, exhausted, disappointed, and unable to trust anyone- even themselves. If that sounds like you, I’m here to tell you- you are not alone. You deserve to be the fullest version of yourself with all the gentleness, acceptance, and support you dreamed of at the end of that rope. My goal for my clients is to work together to untangle the web of experiences, beliefs, and expectations that makes them feel stuck in survival mode, find healing, and move forward with self-compassion and hope. I view my role in therapy as a partner and a safe environment for my clients as they learn to hear, trust, and use their voices after the world has worked tirelessly to keep them quiet. I thrive in the real, raw, and grounded parts of life and hold space for my clients as they learn to unpack, access, and integrate their truth in those areas.

Between the 2:00 AM study sessions, the constant pressure to have your life figured out, and the exhaustion of keeping up a 'perfect' digital presence, it’s a lot. If you’re feeling like you’re just vibrating with anxiety or running on manual mode, I see you. I’m Dr. Tinai James, and I help students navigate the messy, non-linear transition of college. My office (and my screen) is a zero-judgment zone where we ditch the clinical "therapist-speak." Whether you're dealing with burnout, relationship drama, or just trying to figure out who you actually are outside of your GPA, let's figure it out together. No couch required—just real talk and actual tools.
