Therapists for college students near Atlanta, GA
Hi, My name is Heather and I have been working as an individual and family therapist for over 10 years. Through my professional experiences, I have found a love for working with younger adult clients and currently work with many undergraduate and graduate college student. I enjoy my work in helping to identify what isn't working for clients in their individual lives or in their relationships and finding alternative ways of thinking and responding that support mental wellness. My experience is is mostly in the areas of symptoms commonly experienced by those struggling with ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD. I work mainly with cognitive models of therapy and am trained in EMDR, and have experience with other theories of psychology that I interweave into my practice, depending on what clients needs are and what they respond positively to. Ultimately I think the connection between therapist and client is the most important part of the therapeutic relationship and I truly enjoy getting to know my clients on a personal level through the clinical work we engage in. I'd appreciate your consideration in your searches for a therapist to work with.
Everyone experiences wounds in life, be it loss, illness, abuse, a difficult relationship, neglect, or any other overwhelming issue. Sometimes even experiences that "should" bring joy like graduating, starting a new job, marriage, or having children can render us feeling like we are in crisis - or stuck. We work with clients to help them get unstuck from feelings of anxiety, depression, and emotional reactivity. When we can identify the patterns that keep us in pain, we can begin to develop new ways to cope and manage the stress of our lives.
I primarily work with individuals struggling with compulsive behavior, including sex/porn addiction, codependency, internet/social media addiction, and problem spending/debting. Addiction is meant to make you feel less. It provides temporary numbing for lifelong pain. You feel trapped, depressed, angry, anxious, guilty, and afraid when you can't stop. Recovering from compulsive behavior, though not easy, is possible and has been accomplished many times. But it does require a complete change in beliefs and attitude, along with how to deal with life and its problems. Getting out of your head and taking action is the next indicated step. Listen to your mind and body - it's time to stop treating yourself so badly. I can help you learn to help yourself. You can become your own best advocate. All are welcome in my office, including those from BIPOC and LGBTQIA communities.
Life can shift in ways we never expected—whether from trauma, loss, relationship changes, or mounting anxiety. You may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or like you're just trying to make it through each day. If you're a trauma survivor, have experienced sexual assault or abuse, or are navigating a major life transition, you're not alone—and healing is possible. I specialize in working with trauma survivors using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). These approaches help reduce distress, process painful memories, and build a sense of safety and control. I also support clients experiencing chronic stress, anxiety, and major life transitions. I work with individuals and with couples. Whether you're processing the past or managing the stress of the present, therapy with me is collaborative, supportive, and grounded in evidence-based care. If you're ready to begin, I invite you to call or email my office to schedule your first appointment. Let’s take that next step together!

I offer therapy with or without a Christian perspective. Your choice. No judgement from me, only support and encouragement to help you manage your difficulties.

As a college student or mid-career professional, trauma is the last thing you want to talk about. You wake up and take care of yourself. You go to class, go to work, clean your apartment, take care of your dog, go to the gym. You’re doing more than surviving- by many definitions, you are thriving! However, most people don’t know your story. A part of you feels grateful for your life, but another part wonders, "How would life be different if the (trauma) never happened to me?" You’re ready to let go of shame and guilt. You’re ready to transform trauma into a tool for meaningful change. You’re ready to renew your life. My name is Miz and I am therapist at Boss Babe Counseling specializing in substance use, trauma, relationship concerns, anxiety, and more. It is my belief that we all have the ability to create the lives that are most fulfilling to us. This can feel untrue in an ever changing and unpredictable world. Sometimes we need support to do this. Needing support is a natural part of the human experience, and you should be proud that you are listening to yourself! We will work towards specific desired goals that you identify in session and take things at your pace. My hope with all clients I work with is that through our time together, we can reshape how you navigate through moments of hardship, build a healthier relationship with all parts of yourself, and increase the joy you experience in your life.

I love working with people who think they may have lost the plot. Who wonder if their symptoms may be a natural reaction to our society and our utter disconnection....from everything. I see you, and I get it. I think there is more to a life well-lived than mainstream notions of success. Come explore your life through values exploration and honest self-assessment, whether short or long-term. Welcoming and affirming for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC. I have an eclectic approach, which is a fancy way of saying that I don't rely on any one way of approaching curiosities. But my starting point is always from a place of your strengths, the things you are doing well, and your unique interests/wants/needs. I trend toward elements from Acceptance and Commitment, Positive Psychology, Existentialism, Brief Solution- Focused, Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation, Radical Acceptance, and Mindfulness. I am progressive in my politics, non-religious, and I believe that cursing is a valid form of self-expression. Humor is a big part of how I communicate and I believe it can get us through a lot of things. Despite being a middle-aged white woman who grew up in the south, you will find no bigoted mindset here. I will never pretend to understand the totality of your experience, but I do promise to see you, hear you, and respect you, while being mindful of the systemic, familial, and cultural issues that may be impacting you. I have stopped taking insurance because of all the barriers it creates from its medical model of viewing functionality and need. I know this creates a financial barrier for some, but I believe that until the system changes, its more of a detriment overall. But lets check those out-of-network benefits and see what we can squeeze out of the insurance company for you :)
