You feel anxious and it’s hard to shut your brain off. People tell you to relax, but it’s not that easy for you. You’ve worked hard to get where you are, but it’s hard to sit back and enjoy it. Your standards for yourself feel too high, and you question how long you can keep this up. You tend to doubt yourself and your abilities and look to other people to reassure you. It’s hard to take up space, feel confident, and speak your truth. You want to feel present in your life and like you’re able to love and appreciate yourself just as you are. You want to feel confident, courageous, and like you are able to advocate for yourself. You want to feel happy, calm, and at peace with your life, your relationships, and your career. I specialize in working with young adults with anxiety, people-pleasing tendencies, imposter syndrome, and perfectionism to build self-confidence and live a life they love. A better future is possible, and I'm here to help you create it. I can’t wait to hear from you, send me an email or call me to schedule a free phone consultation.

My experience treating people, supervising clinicians as well as being director of outpatient group therapy programs prepared me for specializing in a variety of areas providing services that span from therapy for depression, anxiety, trauma, difficulties with college life to group therapy for people struggling with work and relationship issues. I am currently scheduling Telehealth sessions.
Welcome to Lily Mental Health! College can be one of the most exciting times of life — and also one of the hardest. Between academics, relationships, identity shifts, and the pressure to “have it all figured out,” it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected. On the outside you may look like you’re managing, but inside you may be struggling with stress, burnout, or the feeling that you’re not yourself. I’ve worked with hundreds of college students who’ve faced challenges like anxiety, depression, ADHD, burnout, trauma, and major life transitions. Many have already tried counseling, medications, or coping strategies, but still feel stuck and want something more thoughtful, practical, and personalized. My name is Julie Bass, I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and Certified Perinatal Mental Health Provider (PMH-C). I have worked in mental health for over 10 years and offer a blend of medication management and integrative strategies that go beyond quick fixes. My practice is intentionally small so I can provide personalized care — not rushed diagnoses or one-size-fits-all treatment plans. I take the time to really understand your story, explore the root causes of your symptoms, and help you find sustainable ways forward. I especially enjoy working with college students navigating identity, independence, and transitions, as well as international students, who often carry the added stress of being far from home, balancing cultural expectations, and adapting to a new environment. I also know how busy student schedules can be, so I offer early morning, evening, and weekend appointments to make care more accessible. If you’ve ever thought: “I should be able to handle this, but I feel like I can’t.” “I’m doing everything right, but I still don’t feel better.” “No one seems to actually listen.” …know that you’re not alone. My practice is built on the belief that you deserve care that feels collaborative, respectful, and empowering — care that helps you understand yourself and create lasting change. This is a space where your voice matters. Let’s work together to help you feel grounded, confident, and connected again.
We are a thriving DBT practice that works with teens and young adults to skillfully manage the strong emotions that they find overwhelming or interfere with their ability to function effectively in their lives. We offer group and individual therapy services. We would consider virtual (telehealth) services if a person has already had DBT and is seeking support to maintain gains. Another service we offer is psychological assessment, which is provided to help clarify mental health diagnoses, to learn more about what is getting in the way of treatment progress, or to take a deeper dive into how someone's personality is constructed. (This is different from neuropsych assessment.)
I am a psychologist in private practice in Somerville, MA. I am also licensed the the State of Maine. I am currently working with clients both virtually and in my Davis Square office. Many of my clients come for therapy when they facing a challenging life circumstance or transition. In addition to addressing issues such as stress, anxiety and mood concerns, my clients are often interested in exploring underlying causes of symptoms so they can feel more satisfied in their lives and relationships. Please feel free to call or email me if you would like to discuss psychotherapy.
My approach to psychotherapy is integrative and responsive to the needs of each individual person within the general contexts of multicultural sensitivity and a strong therapeutic relationship. I have extensive experience working and training in University Counseling Centers (i.e., Penn State University Graduate Assistant, Pre-doctoral internship at Suffolk University, Post-doctoral Fellow at Tufts University followed by three years as a Staff Psychologist at Tufts). Hi! I’m a warm, person-centered therapist who tailors each session to your unique needs. I primarily draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and interpersonal therapy — but more importantly, I meet you where you are. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. You’re the expert in your story, and we’ll work together to develop tools, process challenges, and celebrate growth, big or small. I specialize in supporting adolescents and young adults managing academic pressure, identity concerns, anxiety, and trauma. I also offer comprehensive psychological assessments to help students access accommodations in college — like extended time or alternative testing settings.

Are you struggling with transitions? Are you having problems with limit setting? Relationship issues with friends or family members? Transitioning from elementary school to middle school? For the past 25 years, I have helped patients and their families with these issues and many more as a Board-Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. As Medical Director at Boston Children’s Hospital and at Metro West Medical Center, I have supported families through these various issues. I have an active faculty appointment at both Harvard University and Tufts University. I provide both individual therapy and family therapy when working with children, adolescents, and young adults. I have treated anxiety, depression, ADHD and Bipolar disorder in medically complicated individuals. I emphasize diet, exercise, collaborative communication between caretakers and sleep hygiene before prescribing medications. As a parent of two teenagers myself, I am aware of the pressures that children, teenagers and young adults face today. Through my faculty roles, I have collaborated with mental health clinicians and other providers and absolutely love using a team approach when helping individuals. I am actively involved with teaching Child Psychiatry to Psychiatry residents.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist who works with individuals 13yo+ and offers individual and family therapy. In addition to my private practice, I spent the last eight years working at acute care programs at McLean Hospital with adolescents and their parents, supervised pre- and postdoctoral trainees, and carried an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School. I actively participate in sessions by asking questions and collaborating with you in order to help you achieve your goals. My patients utilize sessions in various ways, such as processing the challenges they are facing and stressful aspects of their lives, working on developing insight into relationship patterns, learning more effective methods of coping, eliciting feedback to communicate their needs more effectively to their supports, better understanding and learning to more effectively manage the intensity of their emotions, exploring various facets of their identity, processing shame and factors impacting their self-esteem, finding ways to live more consistently by their values, and better understanding and/or changing unhelpful behaviors or patterns. I integrate evidence-based treatment interventions, as needed and in a flexible way, to empower you to reduce the impact of your symptoms. I respect that everyone's goals and needs in therapy are different so I am happy to work with you short-term for skills-based work or to work through a time-limited issue, or on an ongoing, longer-term basis. My patients have described me as curious, compassionate, funny, validating, and thoughtful, as well as direct when needed. I look forward to meeting you and please feel free to reach out to ask questions if you have them!
College is a stressful time full of academic demands and social obligations, and everyone needs a space where they can focus on themselves. Clients that work with me are often experiencing big life changes, may be showing signs of stress and burnout, or might be noticing challenges popping up in their relationships. I work to form a strong therapeutic relationship with clients in which they can feel comfortable openly expressing their emotions, work through challenges, or just learn more about who they are. I welcome any client who is looking for a therapeutic space of their own, whether they have years of therapy under their belt or are reaching out for the first time!
