I strive to create a strong, collaborative, and secure therapeutic relationship where you feel truly seen and understood. Many clients come to me ready to examine and unlearn patterns that no longer serve them. They’re seeking to address anxiety and depressed mood, life transitions, and/or interpersonal dynamics. I work with them to develop practical strategies that promote resilience, balance, and a sense of empowerment. My approach to therapy is comprehensive, client-centered, and rooted in social justice, relational mindfulness, and purposeful self-reflection. I value collaboration and ensure that assessment, diagnosis, and treatment are tailored to each person’s unique experience. Above all, I am committed to providing a non-judgmental space where compassion, empathy, and support are met with clear, honest, and practical guidance. My passion is equipping clients with tools they can carry long after therapy ends—helping them shift unhelpful thought patterns, manage emotions more effectively, and confidently navigate life’s many demands. Is Therapy right for me? Therapy is an opportunity for you to explore, reflect upon, and work to overcome issues or circumstances in your life with someone who can be objective yet very much invested in you becoming stronger, healthier, and happier. Counseling as a process is meant to challenge you to face and work through any difficulties you are experiencing because of either past, present, or future concerns. It is typically a weekly meeting between you and your counselor that gives you the space to have an open dialogue about what you are facing, confront your feelings in a more honest way, or to decide how you want to approach solving a problem in your life. The length of counseling is unique for each individual, depending upon on your needs and goals. Essentially, the counseling process is driven by you. We have two therapists at our facility, Bushra Husain, DSW LCSW, Maryum Khwaja, LCSW.

For over 20 years I have worked with teens and young adults as they navigate through life's challenges and transitions. Depression, anxiety, relationship issues or unhelpful thinking patterns can get in the way of living the life we imagine. I enjoy working with clients in a safe, non-judgemental space, where we can identify roadblocks and create a plan that works and allows you to live a fully engaged life!
I have over 25 years experience working with teenagers and adults. I understand the social, behavioral, and academic challenges clients face, not only with the pandemic, but with social media, peer pressure, self-esteem, eating disorders, relationships, decision making, substance use, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm. I provide cognitive behavior therapy, which is to help clients understand why they are thinking and behaving the way they are and to help them understand that in order to change for the long term, they need to first understand what is causing the problem. I help clients develop coping skills and self-care strategies for in the moment and every day use.

PVD Psychological Associates (PVD Psych) is a private psychology practice on the East Side of Providence, Rhode Island. Our mission is to provide the greater Rhode Island area with exceptional therapy, offering cutting edge and research-supported treatment by a team of highly trained therapists. We offer therapy for adults, college students, and adolescents struggling with anxiety, school/career concerns, eating disorders, infertility and women's health issues, and relationship difficulties. PVD Psych is a LGBTQIA-affirmative practice, and is one of few Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island LGBTQ Safe Zone certified providers. We strongly believe that everyone has the right to respectful and affirming, high quality care. My areas of specialization and interest include: women's issues, depression, anxiety, stress management, and working with LGBTQIA-identified individuals and family members. I practice primarily from a relational-dynamic perspective, though I also incorporate techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and narrative approaches to address and tailor treatment to the unique and individual needs of each client. In my work as a therapist, I focus on understanding early experiences and how psychological well-being can be fostered through relationships. I believe change and healing come through relationships: our relationships with ourselves, as well as our relationships with others. I view therapy as a collaborative process that allows both therapist and client to grow and change. My clients describe me as an empathetic, active listener who approaches their concerns with caring, respect, pragmatism, and sometimes, humor. I'm honored that you're considering working with me and I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have. Please feel free to contact me.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in evidence-based treatment for anxiety, OCD-related concerns, phobias, and sleep difficulties Over the past several years, I have noticed that many college students struggle academically due to undiagnosed ADHD, executive functioning challenges, and attention-related concerns that may go overlooked. In response to this need, I have added comprehensive and affordable ADHD diagnostic testing to my practice to help students better understand their difficulties, access appropriate treatment recommendations, and obtain accommodations when clinically indicated for academic settings and standardized testing. In addition to ADHD testing, I frequently work with students experiencing anxiety, obsessive thinking, perfectionism, panic, OCD symptoms, sleep disruption, and stress related to academic performance and life transitions.
College can feel like a constant balancing act between expectations, relationships, and the pressure to have it all figured out. I specialize in working with high-achieving individuals who look successful on the outside but privately struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, and self-doubt. Many of my clients are insightful and self-aware–they know why they feel the way they do, but that insight alone hasn’t been enough to shift how they feel. My approach focuses on helping you reconnect with your emotional experiences as valuable sources of information, not something to fix or avoid. Together, we’ll explore what’s beneath the overthinking so you can feel more grounded, confident, and emotionally resilient. Clients describe me as warm, thoughtful, and collaborative. I create a space where you can feel both deeply supported and gently challenged. If this resonates, I’d love to connect for a free consultation.

Do you find yourself overcome with anxiety, stress, or intrusive thoughts? You may feel stuck in your own head, think negative "what-if" thoughts, or replay social situations in your mind, critiquing what you said and overanalyzing how everyone else responded. Are you ready to make a change? If so, allow me to guide you in shifting your mind from being your arch enemy to your powerful ally. My clients and I work together as a team. We will talk about the negative thinking patterns affecting you the most, and strategies to change them so that you can breathe a sigh of relief as you feel their grip on you loosen. My clients learn new ways of approaching their thoughts, and techniques to calm their minds for immediate and long-term relief. Practicing these tools in-between our sessions ensures that you are developing new healthy habits to support lasting change. I use strategies based on scientific research so you can get the results you are looking for. If you are tired of feeling stuck and are ready to take that first step toward feeling better, call or email me today. Change starts from within, and I am here to guide you in that process.
You’re used to handling things. You’ve figured out how to succeed, meet deadlines, and show up for others — but lately it feels harder. Maybe anxiety is louder, your mood dips more often, or relationships feel strained. You don’t have to keep pushing through alone. Therapy can help you build steadiness, clarity, and more intentional choices in the middle of a demanding season. At Mind Field Therapy, I work with college students navigating anxiety, depression, identity shifts, relationship stress, and the impact of difficult life events or past trauma. I’ll absolutely ask how you’re feeling — and we’ll go deeper than that. I’m direct, grounded, and occasionally use humor when it helps us loosen anxiety’s grip. The goal isn’t endless venting; it’s understanding what’s driving the patterns and building tools you can actually use.
