I love supporting students of all ages and young adults in graduate school, college, and high school, as you're navigating through life transitions, relationships, and mental health challenges. I have worked at many college counseling centers and know how important and intense these years are for students. I approach therapy from a humanist and relational orientation that focuses on your individual strengths. I often help clients with anxiety, depression, perfectionism, family relationships, identity development, work/school-life balance, ADHD/ADD, self-esteem, sexual identity, relationships, and grief. Sauk Rapids, MN

I know that balancing school, work, and a social life is a lot to handle, and sometimes "powering through" just isn't enough. As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Minnesota, I help college students and adults (16+) navigate these high-stress years. Since I work exclusively via telehealth, you can skip the commute and meet with me from the privacy of your own space. How I Help I specialize in working with people managing Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, ADHD, and Autism, as well as Personality Disorders. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I use a mix of tools to help you find what actually works for your life: CBT: To help you catch and change the negative thought loops that keep you stuck. DBT: To give you "in-the-moment" skills for handling big emotions and stressful situations. ACT: To help you stay present and make choices based on what actually matters to you. What to Expect In our sessions, you can expect a real, down-to-earth conversation. There’s no need to "perform" or have all the answers. Whether you are struggling to get things done, healing from past experiences, or just trying to keep your head above water, we’ll work as a team. My goal is to help you feel more in control and give you practical tools so that daily life feels a lot more manageable.

Psychiatrist
Rochester, MN

Hello! I’m Dr. Matheus Marques, a board-certified psychiatrist specialized in mood disorders, with particular expertise in treatment-resistant depression. I believe in partnering with my patients to develop personalized treatment plans that honor both the latest scientific evidence and each person’s unique circumstances and goals. With over a decade of experience in medicine, I have completed five years of specialized psychiatric training at Mayo Clinic including both my psychiatry residency (where I served as chief resident) and fellowship in mood disorders. At Mayo Clinic, I helped develop institutional consensus for managing treatment-resistant depression, work that ensures I bring the most current approaches to complex cases. I’ve also completed specialized training in reproductive psychiatry through the National Curriculum in Reproductive Psychiatry and continue to participate in their ongoing supervision program. Whether you’re seeking help for depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, treatment-resistant conditions, or mental health needs during pregnancy and postpartum, my goal is to provide thorough, individualized care grounded in the latest research. My practice welcomes patients from across Minnesota, and I look forward to working together to develop a treatment approach that works for you.

During our sessions together, I will support you in exploring the many parts of you and how they came to be. I will work with you to identify the negative messages connected to these parts of you. We will form a relationship with these parts and create a safe place for all of you to be seen, heard, and understood. In this safe place, you will heal yourself. Developing my own internal resources has helped me to move through some very difficult times as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Using evidence based research, I provide care that values every part of you and respects where you came from. In those moments of pain and struggle and self-discovery, I will help you to choose yourself. I seek to create a safe and inclusive space for black-bodied individuals, first generation immigrants, LGBTQ+ folks, survivors of trauma, sex workers, and clients who are struggling with relationship and intimacy issues. My approach to mental health care is rooted in anti-oppressive and decolonizing frameworks. The treatment modalities that I use have been found to be effective across many cultures, ages, genders, and experiences. I am here to support my clients in rediscovering themselves, strengthening their mind-body connection, and living the life they have always wanted.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck in your thoughts, or just not like yourself lately? You’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out alone, either. I work with students who are navigating stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and life transitions that can feel confusing or heavy. Many of the people I work with are used to putting others first, staying busy, or “holding it together” even when they’re struggling inside. If that sounds familiar, this may be a good place to start. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I offer a space that’s judgment-free, supportive, and focused on what you need. Together, we’ll explore what’s going on and create a personalized plan that may include therapy, medication support, or both—always at a pace that feels right for you. I currently see clients through secure, easy-to-use telehealth, so you can access care from wherever you feel most comfortable. If you’re ready to feel better, I’d love to help you get started.

You may often second guess yourself, judge yourself and/or over think every interaction or choice you make lately. Maybe your friends or family have pointed out that you seem off or maybe you’ve been hiding it. There’s no shame in getting support so you can return to yourself and move forward in a way that more aligns with who you want to be. Working with me comes with ease and emotional safety. I provide online therapy for adults who reside in the state of MN and offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to see if we are a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you!

Sometimes you feel out of place, like you can't connect to other people. Your life might appear "normal" but you can't seem to enjoy it. You may feel alone, like nobody else understands, and might wish you could be more present for your kids/work/partner/family. While you have experienced trauma, pain, loss, hardship, or addiction, you are ready to take hold of your future. If you are looking to break free of a painful past that has you chained in your present, you have found the right place. Thrive clients are women who have struggled, felt alone, and are exhausted. They are people who want support in moving forward. I am genuine, honest, upfront and interactive, and emphasize the importance of our connection for your healing. I treat trauma through the lens of mind/body connection. I primarily use EMDR, which bridges the trauma stored in your body/mind/spirit to allow healing, CBT, which helps you identify and replace unhealthy thoughts, and DBT to teach coping skills. There will be no stuffy office space, writing notes under the gaze of judging eyes, or a long couch...promise! I'll be the supportive ear that puts your butt in gear! You will laugh, cry and heal. You can book your free 10-minute phone consult or first session here (or call or email): https://thriveforlife.clientsecure.me *$165/session via telehealth*

Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to learn more about me! I have over 15 years of experience working in the mental health field in various settings--including inpatient, outpatient, inner-city clinics, schools, and private practice. I specialize in the treatment of Anxiety Disorders and ADHD. My passion for the field stems from my personal experience with it--overcoming a debilitating anxiety/panic disorder and accompanying depression. It was the scariest, most difficult time of my life. However, I made a promise to myself that if one day I could overcome my debilitating anxiety, then I would help others to do the same. I approach every client uniquely and use an eclectic, person-centered, integrative, evidence-based model as well as the ACT model. We will set overall goals that will not only help you with what you are struggling with mentally but also aid you in reaching better health all-around. When ready, I will challenge you and help set weekly goals to work towards. Aside from the omnipresent stigma, the process of getting help can be overwhelming and exhausting, leaving one feeling frustrated and lonely. However, I also know how life-changing it can be to find the right help. You only get this one life and I am here to help you live it in your most authentic, fully expressed, ideal way. You are sitting in therapy watching your therapist's lips move while she tells you for the fourth time that her cousin is gay and just got a “very butch” haircut. You can’t help thinking, “She just doesn’t get it.” He misgenders you, or forgets your partner’s pronouns, she pulls out Food and Mood, and he talks about how apple cider vinegar might be the solution to all your problems. She hasn't lived in a fat body. He hasn’t experienced homophobia or heterosexism from the inside. What initially seemed like a small hill to climb in your relationship has started to feel like a mountain. Maybe she tells you your black top is so slimming. Maybe once he referred to queer people as ‘homosexuals.’ Maybe, when you report your experiences of oppression, she tells you that the other party probably meant well and just wanted you to be healthier or have it easier in the world. You don’t trust him with your whole self, how can you? You’ve tried so many therapists in the past and she’s not that bad, is she? You continue to hope that therapy with a therapist who doesn’t quite get it will be enough to meet your needs. It’s not enough. You deserve a therapist who understands your lived experiences. You deserve a therapist who knows what it’s like to have your doctor prescribe weight loss to treat arthritis in your wrists, and who can truly hear it when you tell them about your experience with your homophobic aunt at Thanksgiving. You deserve a therapist who approaches the world with a solid intersectional anti-oppression framework that sees society, rather than some flaw in you, as the central piece of your problem. I can be that therapist. I’m fat, I’m queer, I have an intersectional lens, and I want to dismantle systems of oppression one client session at a time.
