People often hear “just go to therapy” or “focus on healing” but not enough is said about how complex that process can feel. Healing can feel uncertain. You may know something needs to shift but not know where to start. It can feel like progress and setbacks are happening at the same time. It can also feel like wanting support but not yet having the words for it. If that sounds familiar you are not alone. As a Holistic Mental Health Therapist I support clients in reconnecting with themselves and building a sense of safety in mind body and spirit. I integrate evidence based practices with mindfulness breathwork meditation and trauma informed yoga to support nervous system regulation and emotional grounding. You do not have to figure it all out alone. There is space here for your story and your process.
I’m Robert G. Engle, LMHC, a virtual therapist specializing in EMDR therapy with student-athletes, college students, and high-performing individuals. I help clients work through performance anxiety, trauma, injury-related stress, fear of failure, burnout, perfectionism, ADHD-related stress, and identity strain. Many of the people I work with are used to performing well on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or under constant pressure internally. My approach is thoughtful, direct, and collaborative. I help clients better understand what is happening beneath the surface while building regulation, resilience, confidence, and clarity under pressure. I am licensed to provide virtual therapy in both North Carolina and Florida, which makes this a strong fit for student-athletes and high-performing students in either state.
I offer individual, partners/couples (including polyamorous partners), and family counseling, in addition to letter of support services for gender transition, for anyone age 13+. My primary focus areas are exploring & supporting identity development (racial identities, LGBTQ+ identities, etc), developing healthy relationships, improving communication, processing trauma, understanding family dynamics, & resolving conflicts. I am open to working with anyone who thinks they would be a good fit, but in general, I tend to be process-oriented, often focusing on how different dynamics impact clients’ experiences. I most value building trusting relationships with my clients and strive to offer a nonjudgemental listening space. I believe that clients have the right, and the ability, to make the best decisions for themselves.
At Teatime With Khi, PLLC, I am inspired by the African American slang “spilling the tea,” which symbolizes the value of sharing one’s truth in a nurturing setting. Over the last 20+ years, I have helped children, adolescents, and adults of all ages discover new skills and healthy coping strategies to overcome trauma, stress, anxiety, and depression. My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe that everyone has a need to be heard without judgment. As a result, I practice active listening, treating everyone with respect, dignity, sensitivity, and compassion. I acknowledge the amount of courage it takes to recognize the need to pursue a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps toward change. My technique combines cognitive behavior therapy, mindfulness, a solution-focused approach, motivational interviewing, and client-centered counseling. Our dialog and your treatment plan will be adapted to meet your unique and specific needs. I believe you deserve to live a healthier happier life. If you are ready to take that first step onto a healing pathway, know that you do not have to take it alone. I am here to support and empower you. I look forward to cheering you on as you embrace a new chapter of your life.
As a counselor, my professional identity is one of authenticity, curiosity, and empathy. I care deeply about helping my clients improve their lives. I believe that starts with the two of us forming a genuine connection so that I can best understand your personality, your worldview, and the problems you are facing – the world can be a tough place and we all have times when we could use someone to listen and understand us. I will repeatedly check in with you to assess your goals for therapy and make sure that we are making progress towards meeting those goals. In our sessions, I will use techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you identify and reduce the types of thinking that can lead to negative emotions. I will also incorporate other techniques such as mindfulness meditation that many clients find useful. Together, we will work as a team to confront the issues that are troubling you. I received my BS in Biology from Duke University and my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands. I've also been a research assistant in Princeton University's departments of social psychology and neuroscience. I try to stay up to date with current research and use only empirically validated modalities with my clients.
Working with me means gaining practical coping skills and tools you can start using right away. I rely on my background in psychology to implement cognitive and behavioral changes. I use scientifically supported methods like CBT, DBT, exposure, and mindfulness skills to create real, lasting changes. Our sessions will go beyond exploration and reflection — therapy with me is not 'just talking.' It feels great to vent, but it feels even better to have a path forward. I will gently confront and challenge you when I notice you might be holding yourself back. We all have a tendency to lean into old patterns and unproductive coping skills, especially when it’s all you know. I’m here to hold you accountable and help you grow in a supportive, respectful, and nonjudgmental way.
The students I work best with are often the ones who look like they are doing fine. You are getting the work done and showing up, but you are tired in a way sleep does not fix, and there is a low hum of dread that never fully goes away. Many of them were the ones who always did well before, so struggling feels like admitting something. What comes up most: anxiety that was manageable at home and is not manageable here, being far from family and not wanting to worry them, a relationship taking up more room than your classes, and family things that did not stay behind when you left. I am licensed in eleven states, so if you are at school in one and your family is in another, we can usually keep going over the breaks instead of starting over. You do not need a diagnosis to come in.
Glad you're here- you are taking the first step towards taking better care of yourself and making yourself a priority, which can be difficult to do at times. Many clients seek out therapy or coaching not really knowing what to expect or what it is like and that is perfectly ok, we get it! It can be uncomfortable and a little scary to take a deeper look at ourselves, thinking patterns, behaviors and our role in relationships and that is why it our priority at ModernMind to offer a warm and safe space for each and every client to feel validated and empowered along their personal journey to wholeness and recovery. We are passionate about working with emerging adults and young adults who are struggling with a range of concerns including: - Depression - Anxiety/Stress - Life transitions - Disordered eating - Eating disorder recovery - Self- worth/ self-esteem - Body image - Identity development - Self discovery - Relationship issues
