Therapists for college students near University of Chicago
Lucy Hirsch
Hi, I'm Lucy, LSW (she/her)! I believe that our environment, community, and positionality work together to shape our mental health. I view therapy as a collaboration between the therapist and the client, as you are the expert of your own experience. Together, we will explore the approaches and skills that best fit your needs to support you in navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, ADHD, neurodivergence, identity and LGBTQ+ related concerns, as well as relationship challenges, family dynamics, and major life transitions. I approach therapy from an integrative and holistic, trauma-informed lens to recognize the importance of the client’s self-determination when engaging in therapy and trauma work. I primarily utilize CBT and DBT when working with clients with anxiety, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, and depression. In my work with couples, I primarily utilize IFS (Internal Family Systems) and narrative therapy to identify the roles and stories within a relationship. As your therapist, I am here to help you challenge negative thoughts and look at situations through different lenses, while also providing a space for you to express your vulnerabilities and reflect on past experiences. My hope is that our work feels meaningful and that you feel comfortable and seen in the space we create together.
Dr. Blehart & Associates
As therapists, we work to build a genuine relationship with each client, create a safe space for discovery, and aim to understand that individual. This allows clients to safely explore alongside the therapist, and begin to see themselves with greater clarity, depth, and honesty. Good, effective therapy will likely not happen overnight (though exciting and wonderful eureka moments certainly occur along the way), and trust, honesty, and humor are invaluable to a beneficial therapeutic relationship. We believe that laughter and tears are equally powerful but that therapeutic change is measured in neither. We believe the act and effort of genuinely and non-judgmentally understanding each client allows for lasting therapeutic change to take place. While each clinician at Dr. Blehart & Associates has a unique method and skillset, we believe it is the underlying interpersonal style and ability to connect and understand that rests at the heart of our work. Dr. Blehart & Associates offers the highest level of expertise, care, and access for adults and adolescents in Chicago. Services are available in English, Spanish, German, and Somali.

College can bring a lot of change at once. You may be adjusting to a new environment, feeling pressure to succeed, questioning what you want for yourself, or trying to balance your own needs with expectations from family, culture, or the people around you. For international students or students navigating multiple cultures and identities, these transitions can feel especially complicated. I work with college and graduate students experiencing anxiety, depression, academic stress, burnout, identity exploration, and major life transitions. I especially enjoy supporting international students, Asian and Asian American students, multicultural individuals, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. My approach is warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive. Rather than assuming there is one “right” way to move forward, we’ll explore what is happening in the context of your relationships, culture, identity, and experiences. I draw from feminist and person-centered therapy, along with CBT and other approaches, to help you better understand yourself, manage difficult emotions, and make choices that feel more aligned with who you are. Growing up in Guangdong, China and later pursuing my education and clinical training in the United States has also shaped my understanding of culture, identity, and belonging. I provide therapy in both English and Mandarin and strive to create a space where you can bring all parts of yourself into the conversation.

Does it feel like having a person to talk to would make life less hard? While acknowledging that I cannot determine whether a space is safe or not, I strive to offer a space of non-judgement, validation, compassion and growth where you can get to know yourself more, build insight and acknowledgement of your strengths, and talk about whatever you need to for an hour. Areas that I work with include body positivity/ body image, sex positivity, LGBTQ+, self-harm, anxiety, and trauma. Using multiple therapy frameworks grounded in mindfulness, a social justice lens, and the Health at Every Size (HAES) model, I work with you to live life a way that is important to you. Whether you need to vent, address unhelpful coping skills, rant about your roommate, process trauma, or show me a funny therapy TikTok that you felt spoke to you too much, I look forward to working with you.
Emily Dunn
Hi, I am Emily (she/her), LCSW! It’s no secret that life can have its ups and downs. Whether it be transitions, endings, or new beginnings, it is important to have people who can walk alongside you throughout all these changes; people who can see the good in you, who can be your biggest cheerleader, and who can be a place for you to lean on when you need it the most. My goal as a therapist is to provide that space for you, and to provide you with a place where you can come as you are and become who you want to be. I am passionate about working with teenagers and emerging adults, specifically those who may be experiencing a life transition, have experienced trauma in their lifetime, or who cope with anxiety or depression symptoms and disorders. I thrive when working with individuals who are seeking to build skills in emotional regulation and who want to strengthen their social skills and interpersonal relationships. I have significant experience working within the child and adolescent therapeutic space and believe that providing mental healthcare to the next generation is vital for moving society forward. I believe that the relational aspect between a therapist and client is vital to seeing progress in the areas a client desires, and I strive to be a compassionate, affirming, and honest therapist. My approach often includes humor, and I am not afraid to challenge clients when necessary. I seek to learn what makes an individual tick, what brings them joy, and to develop a deep understanding of their personality, goals, and values so they can achieve what they want from therapy. I draw from a variety of different modalities, including trauma–focused cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. Each of these modalities brought together allows me to cater an environment toward each individual I work with; what may work for one person may not work for another, and it is my goal to make therapy a space that you enjoy coming to and that you feel you are able to get the most out of. I believe that each person has value and something to offer this world- it can just be hard to see that sometimes. It would be my greatest joy to walk alongside you in discovering what that might look like for you.
McCarrick & McClintock: Clinical Psychologists LLC
Most clients are already aware of what they need or where they want to go. My role is to help you identify what is getting in the way of living out your values each day, and to help you gradually remove those barriers. If you aren't sure what you hope to get out of therapy but just want to feel better, we'll work together on a plan towards increased wellness that fits for you. I consider myself a generalist but I have specific training in the treatment of depression, anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, substance use, grief, and personality disorders. My practice involves cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, and mindfulness-based interventions. I do my best to tailer the interventions I use to the specific needs of each client. It takes courage to ask for help, whether you're experiencing mental health issues for the first time or whether you have struggled for years. I hope to make your experience as welcoming and comfortable as possible. The quality of the relationship between the therapist and client is, after all, one of the most important determinants of therapy success.

College and grad school can bring a lot of pressure—and for many students, that can show up in their relationship with food and their body. Between academic stress, social comparison, changing routines, and campus culture, it's common for body image concerns and eating disorder symptoms to become more intense. As an eating disorder registered dietitian, I provide compassionate, trauma-informed nutrition counseling from a Health at Every Size® (HAES®) and All Foods Fit approach. Whether you're struggling with an eating disorder, chronic dieting, body image, or simply want to feel more at peace with food, I'm here to help you build a healthier, more flexible relationship with eating and with yourself. I also lead Yoga for Embodiment and offer virtual sessions for Illinois and Oregon residents.

Beginning therapy can often seem daunting. It can be the first time you are admitting something isn’t working, or you aren’t feeling okay. I want to provide the space and time for you to sit with that possibility, work together to understand those thoughts and feelings, and use your experiences to guide you toward new, affirming spaces and connections. Together, we can support you in navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, ADHD, neurodivergence, identity and LGBTQ+ related concerns, as well as relationship challenges, family dynamics, and major life transitions. Whether you’re beginning therapy or returning to it, I look forward to connecting and working together.

Whether you’re seeking clarity around a current challenge or hoping to create deeper, lasting change, therapy offers an opportunity to understand and rework patterns that affect your relationships or hold you back. With advanced training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, I view the therapeutic relationship as central to growth and healing. I bring empathy, openness, humor, and genuine curiosity to our work. Most importantly, I believe therapy should feel collaborative—a partnership where we deepen understanding, create new possibilities, and support meaningful change.

There is strength in experiences of trauma and marginalization. Amidst systems built to dehumanize us, therapy can be a space of resistance that fosters reflection and unearths empowerment. My role is to follow your lead as you define wellness for yourself. With curiosity and compassion, we will map your visions while seeking insight from our past to build strategies and navigate challenges and transitions. Informed by my own QTPOC identities, I see each person as part of a historical, collective, and cultural ecosystem. I welcome the nuanced voices of all your identities and selves. Foundational to my practice is the therapeutic relationship. From children to adults, I see this authentic connection as a site that models and manifests boundaries, accountability, care, repair, play, and joy. I see our body as a source of self-knowledge and use somatic approaches to locate safety and regulation. As a person-centered therapist, I draw from multiple modalities including psychodynamic, feminist, cognitive behavioral, acceptance & commitment, attachment, and internal family systems. I encourage creative and expressive approaches to healing. I also have deep interests in intergenerational trauma, racial trauma, the neurobiology of trauma, and relational cultural theory. As the great educator Bell Hooks said, “No one heals in isolation.” Along with our therapeutic relationship, I support interpersonal and community relationships in the spirit of social justice. I see de-stigmatizing mental health as important and seek to challenge dominant narratives of self and collective care. Terrains of violence, trauma, and harm are daunting. With trust and transparency, recognizing my privilege as your therapist, I would be honored to travel beside you.

I absolutely love working with young folks who feel stuck, anxious, or alone in dealing with the stressors that life brings. I am a relational therapist that holds space for young adults to build connection, develop mindfulness, and explore what values will be motivating for their life choices. This work is rooted in prioritizing self-acceptance: one of the best gifts we can give ourselves in individual talk therapy. In a group therapy setting, I aim to create freedom for individuals to get better at feeling emotions and communicating them to others, as a way to navigate symptoms of anxiety, depression, or trauma. Let’s talk more about how I can help you explore self-doubt, dysregulated emotions, academic anxiety, peer conflict, grief, apathy, anger, addiction, shame, or sadness. The experience of emerging adults today is not hopeless; there is ample opportunity to build resources for connection. This connection creates confidence in your ability to cope, grow, and heal on the journey towards a meaningful life!
